Afghanistan Win Under-19 ACC Premier League 2015

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Afghanistan retain the ACC Under-19 Cricket Premier League title after beating Malaysia by seven wickets in the final match held at the Kinrara Cricket Academy here Thursday. With the defeat, Malaysia finished third, while Nepal emerged runner-up after outclassed Saudi Arabia by nine wickets in another match held at Kelab Aman. In the match Thursday, Afghanistan won by seven wickets with 171 balls to spare after 109 runs in 21.3 overs. Despite the lost, national team captain Virandeep Singh Jagjit Singh was crowned as the most promising player with 161 runs in the seven-day tournament that involved six countries. National Under-19 team manager, T.Senathiraj said that he was satisfied with overall performance showcased by the young players as well as two players who were currently played in the senior squad. He noted that the boys had also improved their position from fourth in last year's tournament to third place this year. "It is a good improvement. Pavendeep Singh, who is currently in the senior squad, has shown his talent after getting three wickets in today's match against Afghanistan. Same thing shows by Virandeep. "The Under-19 have shown that they have good quality to move forward. Next step for them is to continue their effort because they will be the next players in the senior team," he told Bernama. Meanwhile, Senathiraj said that besides Virandeep and Pavendeep, another young player, Syed Aziz Syed Mubarak, was selected to strengthen the Malaysia team in the Carl Schubert Trophy 2015, scheduled to begin on Sept 4. The Carl Schubert Trophy, is the annual event between Malaysia and Singapore, and is held alternately in both countries. The tournament will be played in T20 match followed by 50 overs matches and three days innings format to determine the winner. --BERNAMA
