All set to go for Sports Day

Manama, Feb. 11 (BNA): Bahrain is all set to embrace another major sporting event as the 2019 Bahrain Sports Day kicks off across the Kingdom's governorates on Tuesday. Organisations representing government and non-government parties, including ministries, agencies, institutions, banks, financial institutions and companies, will engage in a packed sports programme, prepared by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), the event organisers. Commencing at 3 pm, the festivities will take place in purpose-built sports village in each of the country’s four governorates, with the main village being located at Isa Sports City, near the National Stadium in Riffa. The first of the activities lined up today will be a cycling race, to be followed by a color run at 4.15pm. The sports village, which promises to attract all members of the family, features food courts, kids zone, a theatre hosting entertaining and music shows, a special studio for Bahrain Television, in addition to a dedicated area to host different sporting competitions. They include table tennis, horse riding, traditional inherited sports, sports for people with disabilities, 3x3 basketball, Spartan, physical fitness, cross fit, mixed martial arts and American football, besides a corner for productive families, an inquiries reception and paramedics services. The sports village also includes other sets of programmes like free medical consultations, sports shows, discounts on a number of products for the visitors, sports competitions and many other entertaining activities for children, in addition to valuable prizes and large raffle draws for the public. Furthermore, BOC has prepared additional programme for its staff today – in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports – prior to the start of the activities at Manama Club. Meanwhile, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant secretary general, BOC secretary general and 209 Bahrain Sports Day Organising Committee chairman Abdulrahman Askar the sports day reflects the value of sport and health, and called to raise awareness in our societies to preserve the future of our generations. "The Bahrain Sports Day initiative and dedicating a half-day off from the government to provide the opportunity for the employees to exercise underlines the keenness of our leadership to promote such beneficial initiatives that motivate all segments of the society to perform positive practices, and make it a daily life routine," said Askar. "We are proud to organize a wide range of sports events that cover all sectors of the society in cooperation with various ministries, government authorities, governorates and the private sector. We hope that these events will be enjoyed by everyone". Askar stressed that sport is a global language and that this national sporting event is a celebration and a multi-activity festival that is open to all nationalities in an attempt to encourage them to adopt a healthy lifestyle. He noted that the sports day is an appreciation of the role of sport in our lives, and its constructive role in building a healthy body, pointing out that the Organizing Committee, the Bahrain Olympic Committee and all partners and contributors will harness all its potential and capabilities to ensure the success of this initiative. On her part, Bahrain Sports Channel director Maryam Bukamal said the channel will be telecasting from different locations across Bahrain’s governorates. Maryam said 110 staff members, including technicians, photographers and 28 cameras will be available to broadcast as many activities of the Bahrain Sports Day throughout the day. Eight embassies are joining the event today – the UAE, Philippines, Lebanon, UK, American, Brunei and Egypt, by offering a set of their respective programmes for the public. Other establishments have also interacted with the event as a number of athletic wear stores are offering some incentives for the sports day goers. Clubs 1 Gym and Ghassan Gym have offered a 20 per cent discount in addition to free coupons, while Al Nakheel Fitness is also allowing sports day visitors to gain free access to its facilities. On their side, Fitness Track and Future Gym both have announced free usage of their respective facilities on February 12 and 13., while Glex Gym and Fit Gym both are giving 20 per cent discount on memberships.
