Asean Games Infrastructure Development Needs To Be Accelerated

Jakarta, Sept 17 (Antara) - Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has asked to accelerate the infrastructure development plan prior to the Asian Games event in Jakarta in 2018. "Jakarta will host the Asian Games in 2018. Therefore, I expect the supporting infrastructures will be ready by then," stated Basuki in the City Hall on Wednesday. Besides Jakarta, the event will also take place in various other Indonesian provinces, such as West Java, Banten, and South Sumatra. Therefore, infrastructure development must be accelerated, Basuki noted. Specifically, for the city of Jakarta, sport venues must be constructed at Bung Karno Stadium, South Jakarta, and BMW Park Stadium, North Jakarta. "Meanwhile, construction is also being carried out in the area of Jakarta State University. A total rehab of the area will be carried out, so the areas become really ready for the Asian Games," said Basuki. Basuki noted that this year`s Asian Games will be held in Incheon City, South Korea, where tens of thousands of athletes from various countries in Asia will participate. "Therefore, we must learn how the current host (South Korea) has organized the competition. Meanwhile, we also have to get ready with the infrastructure in Jakarta," added Basuki.
