Asian Cup: Olympic Maroon Qualify for Quarterfinals in Style

Doha, January 19 (QNA) - Qatar's U23 national football team booked their place in the Asian Cup quarterfinals after beating Syria 4-2 in the third game of the group stage at Al Sadd Club's Jassim bin Hamad Stadium. The win means The Maroon wrap up the group stage in style having managed the full mark with nine points from three games. The Syrian team opened the score three minutes into the game but the hosts responded swiftly through Abdulkarim Hassan on 10 minutes before Ahmed Alaaeldin added a second on 24 minutes. Al Moez Ali registered the third for The Maroon four minutes later to end the first half 3-1. The game went down to an exciting finish as the Syrian side pulled one back on 79 minutes but Ali scored his second of the night to secure the win and qualification for the Qatari side. (QNA)
