Asian Games: Jet Ski Set To Make Positive Impact At Debut

RAWANG (Selangor, Malaysia), July 16 (Bernama) - Malaysia's Chef-de-Mission to the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi is optimistic that jet skiing will bring positive results when it makes its debut in the Games next month. Abdul Azim said the timely preparation made by the national jet ski squad and the current performance of athletes have made Malaysia among the countries capable of ending up in podium position. “The athletes’ level of readiness is all in good shape and they have also participated in several international tournaments by taking the top positions. So we hope in the Asian Games, they will bring the country's challenge to the podium,” he said after meeting with jet ski representatives and athletes at Tasik Biru Kundang, here Sunday. Meanwhile, team manager, Nazar Omar, did not rule out the possibility of attaining at least one gold, if there were no technical problems facing the country's contingent in Indonesia. He said three national athletes who will bring Malaysia's challenge in the 'endurance open', 'limited class' and '1,100 stock' events are among the top-ranked athletes in Asia. "Our athletes are professional, not amateurs. We are confident of their ability and with the presence of great coaches and technical officers, they have no problem returning home with gold. “The gold medal is our target but if engine damage occurs, or if it hits a hard object that could cause the jet ski to break, it will obviously be beyond our ability,” he said. Nazar hoped that the Olympic Council of Malaysia would be able to solve problems related to the costs and transport processes involving equipment to carry to Indonesia. “The cost that the association has to bear is RM27,000 (US$1 = RM4.05) for one container, but we also need a carnet document that states that all equipment brought into Indonesia, can also be taken out. "I hope this can be resolved as soon as possible because we need to get the equipment out at the latest, by next week," he said. -- BERNAMA
