Asian Games: Qatar Beat Iraq in Handball Competitions

Jakarta, August 20 (QNA) - Qatar handball team defeated Iraqi counterpart 26-20 on Monday in the Group A match of the main round of the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia, which will run until September 2. The Qatari team dominated the game since the beginning and won the first half 15-9. This is Qatar's third victory after defeating Iran 35-20 and Malaysia 64-11 in the first round of the tournament. Qatar are on top of Group A with two points ahead of Japan and Saudi Arabia each have a point then Iraq in the fourth position. Qatar will face Japan and Saudi Arabia in the next two days to secure a place in the semi-finals. Qatari swimmers continued to make new personal records on the second day of the swimming competition, as Abdulaziz Al Obaidli scored a new record in the 50m race of 28.78 seconds, while his previous record was 29.65 seconds. Abdulrahman Mohammed also scored a new record in the 200m race of 2,16.84 minutes while his previous record was 2,19.75 minutes. In the third day of swimming competition, Noah Al Khulaifi, and Abdul Aziz Al Obaidli will participate in the 50m back race and Abdul Rahman Mohammed in the 200m breaststroke race. Qatar 3x3 basketball team will begin its campaign on Tuesday with a game against the Maldives. The team will also face Nepal, Jordan, and Japan in order to qualify for the quarter-finals. (QNA)
