Asian Para Games: Malaysia On A Roll

From Karina Imran INCHEON (South Korea), Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia have exceeded the nine-gold target for the Incheon Asian Para Games. Malaysia now have won 11 gold medals with the 11th contributed by Mohamad Faizal Aideal Suhaimi (pic) in the Men's 100m T12 event at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium here Wednesday, the fifth day of the Games. Four years ago at the Guangzhou Games, the national contingent had won nine gold medals. Malaysia's chef-de-mission, Abdul Jalil Abdullah said winning the 11 gold medals was thrilling news for the contingent and country. "This is the best performance from our para athletes. They were determined to boost the nation's name in the international arena. I hope we can collect more medals before the meet ends. "Maybe, Malaysia's subsequent medals can come from badminton, lawn bowls..maybe from other sports too," he told reporters after witnessing the athletics event on Wednesday. Abdul Jalil said Malaysia's paralympics development programme, which started in 2010, had proven to be a success. He said through it, athletes like Mohammad Azlan Mat Lazin, Muhammad Ziyad Zolkifli and Siti Noor Radiah had emerged as national icons for paralympic sports. Malaysia now have collected 11 gold, 17 silver and 21 bronze. (photoBERNAMA) --BERNAMA
