Tommy Sugiarto, who is ranked 13th in the world, beat Lin Dan, ranked second in the world, 19-21, 21-8, 21-16. "The key to my success is my confidence. Apart from that, I also saw a change in Lin Dan's stamina in the second set as he was unable to follow my rhythm," Tommy stated after the match. Tommy lost the first game 19-21 due to an error when the shuttlecock he returned, dropped at the net. In the second game of the match, Tommy took revenge, ending the game in his favor, 21-8.
