Bahrain to compete in World Athletics Championship

Manama, Aug.17 (BNA): A record 23 athletes will represent Bahrain in the 15th World Championship in Athletics, scheduled to be held on August 22–30 A in Beijing, China. Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) First Deputy Chairman, West Asian Athletics Association (WAAA) President and head of Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Khalifa took pride in the number of athletes, the highest to date, who qualifies to compete in the forthcoming 15th World Championship in Athletics. ""This landmark achievement is but the fruit of the wise leadership's keen interest in promoting youth and sport", he said, hailing the crucial role of His Majesty's Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, SCYS Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa. "The qualification of 23 athletes to the 15th World Championship reflects Bahrain's strides in athletics, the "mother of all sports", he said, adding that the participation in the forthcoming championship would further bolster Bahrain's standing on the map of world sport.
