Bahrain wins international medal

03 : 40 PM - 08/07/2016 Las Vegas, July 8 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by the Khalid bin Hamad Mixed Martial Arts organisation team (KHK MMA), ensured a medal by passing from the quarter-finals to the semi-finals of the third edition of World Championships of Amateur MMA organized by the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) in cooperation with the Ultimate Fighting Championship "UFC", held from July 5-10 in Las Vegas. The hopes of winning a medal were secured firml by Bahraini fighter Fahad Abdulrazaq, who participated in the "57 kilograms" category, defeated Bulgarian fighter, Nikolay Ivaylov. His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, the founder of KHK MMA congratulated fighter Fahad Abdulrazaq on securing one of the three positions, and praised his performance during the Championship which showed his strong preparations. His Highness stressed that fighter Fahad Abdulrazaq has high potential and capabilities despite his young age. These enabled him to fight some of the best amateur’s fighters in the world and enter the professional ranks in a short time. HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad further wished Abdulrazaq success in the next bout in semi-finals and spurred him on to raise the name of the Kingdom of Bahrain in this celebration. His Highness pointing out to the participation of Khalid bin Hamad Mixed Martial Arts Team, represented by Frankie Edgar who will face fighter Jose Aldo in the main battle for the featherweight title of the Ultimate Fighting Championship UFC200, by saying: "This participation will add a lot of prestige to the Kingdom of Bahrain through its presence in the biggest event of Mixed Martial Arts. Winning will be another achievement in Bahrain’s sports record and a new step to towards advancing in mixed martial arts." This event is considered as a new step to reach the main goal of lifting the name of the Kingdom of Bahrain in all international sports tournaments, he added. His Highness expressed his great confidence in fighter Frankie Edgar in achieving the Featherweight title and winning the main battle. He pointed out that the fighter has special capabilities that will enable him to be the number one fighter of the category, he is participating in, and to reach the top while maintaining his abilities and skills. His Highness wished Frankie success to win the world title. Abdulrazaq, a surprise in the Championship .and secures a medal Fighter Fahad Abdulrazaq was able to qualify to the semi-finals after defeating Bulgarian fighter Nikolay Ivaylov. He managed to end the bout in the second round at minute: "2:04" through surrender, the first round ended in favor of Abdulrazaq with him delivering an outstanding performance, he entered strongly into the second round, and ending the bout by grabbing the shoulder of opponent in an attempt to dislocate it and forcing him to surrender. Abdulrazaq qualified to the semi-final in his first participation of the World Championship securing a medal for the Kingdom of Bahrain. Weight is the point of excitement for UFC200 Professional fighter, Frankie Edgar will undergo the confirmation of the correct official weight to participate in the UFC200 Championship on Friday, July 8, 2016. Personally my main goal is first place, but I will do my best to reach the second as well." Henry: Frankie is closer to the Championship belt Frankie Edgar’s coach, Mark Henry pointed out that the fighter is capable of lifting the belt of the Championship as he many skills that qualify him for it, he said: "I have been with Frankie since his first bout in the arena, and am sure that he will be the next champion." "The bout will not be easy as fighter Jose Aldo has high capabilities and fighting abilities, so that is why we had all the preparations and exercises," Frankie’s coach added. Edgar underwent an intensive training program for more than four months in order to get prepared for the title belt fight which is considered to be one of the biggest championships of mixed martial arts in the world.
