Bahraini athlete shines in IAAF World Youth Championship

Bogota, July 19 (BNA): Bahraini athlete Salwa Eid Nasser made history when she stormed to a memorable gold medal for Bahrain in a world-youth-leading time and lifetime best of 51.50 at the Girls’ 400-metre final of the IAAF World Youth Championships, Cali 2015. Salwa Eid, who clocked clocked 51.50 seconds, adopted a more cautious approach to the first half of the race than several of her rivals, she made her move at 200 metres and pounced down the home stretch to secure top spot and become Bahrain’s first girl to land a world youth title. She was followed by USA’s Lynna Irby, who clinched the silver medal in 51.79. Great Britain’s Catherine Reid came through to take the bronze medal in a personal best of 52.25. Salwa Eid’s landmark achievement adds to the Bahraini athletics milestones attained under the leadership of Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport, President of the Bahrain Athletics Association and President of the West Asian Athletics Association. Bahrain expects another exploit in the IAAF World Youth Championships when athlete Dalila Abdullqader contests the 1.500-metre final.
