Baku 2015 European Games hosts wrestling demonstration

Baku, October 30, AzerTAc Baku 2015 European Games has hosted a Wrestling demonstration in the organisation’s headquarters with six members of Azerbaijan’s national cadet team. The powerful athletes showed off their ability and technique to more than 500 members of staff in a series of exhibition matches. Mr Simon Clegg, Chief Operating Officer of Baku 2015, said: “We are very grateful to everyone from the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation for taking time out of their busy schedule to show our staff what they are capable of. “Wrestling will be a hugely popular event at next year’s inaugural European Games, so it was an honour to have some of Azerbaijan’s best young athletes here in our headquarters.” The wrestlers were joined by Mr Ajdar Jafarov, General Secretary of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, who helped explain the demonstration. Mr Jafarov said: “Our young athletes enjoyed the opportunity to show their talents to members of the Baku 2015 team. “We are very much looking forward to representing our nation next year at Baku 2015 and we are all hopeful of making all of Azerbaijan proud when the Games begin.” The cadet wrestlers who participated were Sabutay Amishov and Fizuli Huseynov (Freestyle), Ismayil Mammadov and Parvin Abdullayev (Greco-Roman), and female wrestlers Sahila Ojaqverdiyeva and Adelina Mirzayeva. Wrestling will take place over six days of competition in the Heydar Aliyev Arena at next year’s European Games, with approximately 480 athletes competing for the 24 gold medals available. Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place from 12 – 28 June 2015.
