BIC hosts 2015 FIA WEC Six Hours of Bahrain

Manama, Nov. 17 (BNA): Racing intensifies at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) this week as "The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East" hosts the highly anticipated 2015 FIA WEC Six Hours of Bahrain in Sakhir. The international teams and top-class drivers participating in the weekend’s events have already begun arriving in the kingdom, while preparations across BIC have stepped up and are running around the clock. Taking place over the weekend of November 20 and 21, the FIA WEC Six Hours of Bahrain marks eighth and final round of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Action gets underway on the race track on Thursday but doors will only be open to the public Friday and Saturday. Aside from the WEC, there is also an impressive support programme made up of the GP2 Series, GP3 Series, Bahrain-bred Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East and the India-based MRF Challenge. Those racing this weekend have already been busy off the track since first touching down to the kingdom. They were seen setting up their team homes and respective garages at the track, while on Wednesday, their cars will be going through scrutineering and sporting checks. Thursday’s start to racing will be highlighted by the two free practice sessions of the WEC. On Friday, the weekend’s main event, the FIA WEC Six Hours of Bahrain, flags off in the daylight at 3pm and then ends under the stars at night. It is one of only a few day-to-night races in the WEC, offering fans a brilliant spectacle of racing as the sun sets as well as under BIC’s state-of-the-art floodlighting system. A massive grid of 32 cars will be competing in the WEC season finale. All are invited to attend and enjoy endurance racing at its finest at BIC. The FIA WEC Six Hours of Bahrain is the WEC’s exclusive stop in the entire Middle East, giving the kingdom’s motor racing fans a unique taste of Le Mans racing. Race goers will be free to watch all the high-octane action from the Main Grandstand and also enjoy an Open Paddock experience throughout the entire weekend. Watching the event from the Main Grandstand overlooks the start and finish line, the main pit lane and the main straight. Meanwhile, the Open Paddock will give fans a chance to experience what goes on behind-the-scenes in the WEC paddock, where they will likely get a chance to meet one or more of the championship’s star drivers.
