BOC, Education Ministry partnership lauded

Manama, Apr. 20 (BNA): Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar stressed the importance of the effective partnership initiated between the committee and the Education Ministry for the Second School Mini Olympics in an attempt to develop sports in the Kingdom. Askar met the director of Physical Education, Scouting and Girls Guidance at the Education Ministry Dr. Shaikha Al-Jeeb, Physical Education Section head Essam Abdullah and other ministry representatives, in the presence of BOC Projects director Lounes Madene, International Relations director Fajer Jassim and other BOC officials. During the meeting, both parties discussed coordinating matters to launch the second edition of the Mini Olympics, which gets underway tomorrow (Wednesday) at Isa Sports City in Riffa. Askar said the School Mini Olympics has become one of the leading events within the committee’s agenda, and lauded the tremendous success of the first edition of the games held in 2014. Dr. Al-Jeeb said she is pleased for this fruitful partnership with the committee, and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to harness all its abilities and facilities to ensure the success of this event, which is supported by His Majesty the King’s Personal Representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The 2015 Schools Mini Olympics is all set to take place next month. The second edition of the Olympics will continue until April 30. Organized by the BOC in cooperation with the Education Ministry and the sports associations, this year will see six competitions in total – football, volleyball, basketball, athletics, table tennis and swimming. The Mini Olympics aims to spread and promote the values and principles of the Olympic among government and private schools in the Kingdom, and motivate them to practice sports activities and follow a healthy life style. This event features cultural programmes and field visits to national teams training as well as meetings with Olympic champs to boost their morale and achieve the aspirations in future Olympics.
