BOC marks 36th anniversary

Manama, May 21 (BNA): The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) celebrated its 36th anniversary at a special ceremony held on Wednesday. The committee, founded on 23rd May 1979, celebrated the anniversary following its General Assembly in Manama under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports second vice-chairman and BOC's honorary president Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa. It was also attended by BOC board members, including Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and representatives of national sports federations. The ceremony featured speeches delivered by Shaikh Isa and Askar, in which they expressed pleasure to have this special occasion to celebrate the 36th anniversary of the committee, which has been a very successful one. They noted that the achievements made by different sports teams in international competitions were not possible without the significant support of His Majesty the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC's president HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. A short film, prepared by the committee’s Media, Public Relations and Marketing Directorate, was then presented, in which the achievements of the BOC were highlighted. Later on, Shaikh Isa and other invited guests toured a specially-built photo exhibition, which featured the history of the committee over the past 36 years and the most memorable moments in Bahrain’s overseas involvements and accomplishments. The ceremony came to a close with Shaikh Isa received a selection of photos of him heading the Bahrain delegations to various sporting events and attending a variety of activities in appreciation to his efforts and contributions in laying down the pillars of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.
