BOC member to participate in award ceremony in Abu Dhabi

Manama, May 3 (BNA): Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) member and Women’s Sport Committee chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa will today head to Abu Dhabi to honour winners in the second edition of Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Women Athletes awards ceremony. The function is scheduled to take place tomorrow (May 5) and will be staged at Emirates Palace Auditorium in Abu Dhabi. Shaikha Hayat said the award is one of the leading initiatives in an attempt to develop women sports in the Arabian Gulf region. The ceremony will be held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, the Chairwoman of Family Development Foundation and President of the General Women's Union. The Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Award for Woman Athlete’ was established as a pioneering initiative to enhance the civilized image of the UAE and open the gates of excellence and creativity in the field of sports. This Award represents an important turning point in the path of supporting women's sports movement not only in the UAE but at the international level that sees abundant women with distinctive sports achievement. It also stresses the depth of the attention given by the pioneer of the women renaissance in the UAE and encourages, enforces and supports female athletes, including those with disabilities.
