Bronze For Malaysian Cyclist Josiah In Keirin, No Joy For Azizulhasni

From Zuriati Zulmi INCHEON (South Korea), Sept 26 (Bernama) -- National track cycling ace Josiah Ng was not enjoying his bronze medal win on Thursday due to a controversial result involving his compatriot Azizulhasni Awang who was disqualified despite finishing second in the men's keirin event at the Incheon International Velodrome, here. Josiah clinched a bronze medal when the Commissionaire relegated Azizulhasni for entering the sprinter's lane when the opponent was already there. "Right when they announced it, it was almost a dejavu feeling like in Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. I was a bit angry but then in sport we have to accept it. There was a lot of mixed emotion for me because we are so close. Anyone else might be happy but for me Azizul is like my brother. "I didn't really enjoy this like I should have. But we have to realize that sport is sport and this things happen and if it is reversed I will be happy for him," he told reporters. Iranian Mohammad Daneshvarkhourram took the gold while Kazunari Watanabe from Japan won the silver. Meanwhile, Azizulhasni claimed the decision to disqualify him was not only unfair but biased. Azizulhasni who finished second in the race (photo-finish) behind Iranian Mohammad Daneshvarkhourram was adjudged to have crossed the path of the winner and later relegated by the race commissionaire. "When reviewing the video recording of the race, the commissionaire had said the first offence was by Japanese rider Kazunari Watanabe while the second offence was by me at the half way mark. "When we contacted the chief commissionaire, he said if the ending result was to be taken into account, both riders should be disqualified. However, after a long wait, it was announced that only me was relegated," he said adding that he will accept the decision with a pinch of salt. The decision to disqualify meant Azizulhasni will return from Incheon empty handed. --BERNAMA
