China proposes Guangzhou as host of 2017 Russian-Chinese summer youth games

MOSCOW, December 12. /TASS/. China has suggested holding the next Russian-Chinese youth summer games in Guangzhou in November 2017, Russia’s Deputy Sports Minister Marina Tomilova told Tass on Monday. Representatives of the Russian Sports Ministry and the Chinese State General Administration of Sports met in Harbin (Heilongjiang province) ahead of the winter youth games. "An offer was voiced to hold the competitions in Guangzhou in November 2017," said Tomilova, who also took part in the meeting. The previous Russian-Chinese summer youth games were held in Russia’s Irkutsk (Siberia) in July 2015. The first Russian-Chinese winter youth games were held in China’s Harbin from December 7 to 11, 2016. The Russian national team won the country medal ranking, grabbing 50 medals (20 told, 15 silver and 15 bronze). Chinese athletes have 28 awards (seven gold, 12 silver and nine bronze medals). Young athletes aged between 13 and 21 took part in the tournament, competing in five sports - hockey, figure skating, short track, speed skating and Alpine skiing. "Russians have honorably represented their country at the competitions, showing high results in Alpine skiing and speed skating, in figure skating and hockey. As for short track, our competitors from China were better," Tomilova said. The second Russian-Chinese winter youth games are due in Russia in 2018. Read more
