Chong Wei To Face K.Srikanth In Badminton Asia Championships Quarter-Final

KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- National badminton ace Lee Chong Wei is once again set to face world number one K.Srikanth, this time in the quarter-final of the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) in Wuhan, China, Friday. In Thursday's match, Chong Wei, who won the tournament in 2006 and 2016, took one hour to triumph over Indonesia's Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, 16-21, 21-9, 21-11. Chong Wei, who is currently ranked seventh in the world, has to work hard against Srikanth to advance to the next level, taking into account his recent encounter with the world number one in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. At the Games, Chong Wei lost to Srikanth in the mixed team event before edging the 25-year-old for the gold in the men's singles event. Also heading into the quarter-final of the BAC are men's doubles pair Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, who beat Berry Angriawan-Hardianto of Indonesia, 21-16, 21-18, to book a fight against third seeds Takeshi Kamura-Keigo Sonoda. However, women's doubles pair Soong Fie Cho-Tee Jing Yi and mixed doubles duo Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie ended their run in the second round of the championship Thursday. Fie Cho-Jing Yi lost to China's Du Yue-Li Yinhui 18-21 and 10-21, while Soon Huat-Shevon succumbed to a 21-16 and 26-24 defeat against Indonesia's Ricky Karandasuwardi-Debby Susanto. -- BERNAMA
