DesignMENA.com posts article by chairman of Dubai-based Azerbaijan Society

Baku, May 7 (AzerTAc). DesignMENA.com web site has issued an article by chairman of Dubai-based Azerbaijan Society Samir Imanov. Headlined “Broadway Malyan completes National Gymnastics Arena in Baku”, the article reads: “Architecture, urbanism and design firm Broadway Malyan has completed the 9,000 seat National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan, after winning a competition to design the project in 2011. The project included development from start to finish, encompassing architectural, interior and landscape design, as well as graphics, way-finding, signage and ticketing. The shading strips that encircle the structure is a reference to rhythmic gymnasts, featuring three ribbon louvers that control daylight and solar gain and establish external views. At night, the dynamic lighting will illuminate the arena and appear as three distinct bands of Azerbaijan’s national colours. The venue itself comprises retractable and moveable seating that allows the stadium to host other sporting events and concerts. Examples of these includes the the inaugural European Games 2015, the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in 2014 and World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in 2019. Kevin Leahy, director at Broadway Malyan said: “Our expert design team has worked in close partnership with the client to create a world-class and transformational international sports venue that is set up to bring gymnasts and spectators together and represent a symbol of national, civic and sporting pride.” Spokesman for the Federation of International Gymnastics, continued: “The National Gymnastics Arena is a superb project that totally meets the expectations of the gymnastics community in Azerbaijan. We are pleased to extend our warmest congratulations to the project team and all those who have contributed to this wonderful project.”
