Egyptian Players Dominate CIMB Malaysian Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- Egyptian players dominated the 2014 CIMB Malaysian Open squash championship which concluded here Saturday. They won in the women and men's categories. It is the second time that Egyptian squash players dominated the tournament after they did it the first time around in 2012. In the all-Egyptian women's final, world number three Raneem El Weleily defeated Nour El Tayeb 7-11, 11-3, 12-10, 2-11 and 11-7 in 40 minutes. The win enabled Raneem to claimed her second Malaysian Open title after she first won it in 2012 when she defeated Malaysia's squash queen, Datuk Nicol Ann David. "I'm really happy to win the tournament once again. She (Nour) played some really good squash. It's been a while (for me) after winning the tournament and I am very happy," said the 25-year-old who pocketted US$10,200 (about RM32,200) and the coveted trophy. As runner-up, Nour took home US$6,900 (about RM21,800). Earlier in the men's category, Mohamed Elshorbagy clinched his maiden Malaysian Open title after defeating a qualifier, Max Lee of Hong Kong in straight sets 11-6, 11-7 and 11-9 in a 34-minute match. "I'm really happy to win the match here finally. It is my first win for this season and is very important for me to win it. "The win will boost my preparation for the Hong Kong Open next week," said the 23-year-old world number three. Mohamed Elshorbagy won US$8,055 (about RM25,500), while Max bagged US$5,511 (about RM17,400). -- BERNAMA
