EurAsia Cup Team Captains Clarke And Jeev To Renew Rivalry In Malaysia Again

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- Both captains of the recent EurAsia Cup 2016, Ireland's Darren Clarke and India's Jeev Milkha Singh will be back to Malaysia to battle it out once again. The two golfers have confirmed their participation at the inaugural Maybank Championship Malaysia golf tournament which will be held from Feb 18-21 at the Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC). Besides them, also joining the inaugural golf championship are England's Matthew Fitzpatrick and France's Victor Dubuisson, who were members of Team Europe at the recent EurAsia Cup 2016. "The presence of these four renowned players adds to the attraction of the player field at the Maybank Championship Malaysia. I am pleased that so far, seven of the world top 50 ranked players will be at the tournament," said Maybank Chairman Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor in a press conference after unveiling the tournament's trophy here Wednesday. The event offers total prize money of US$3 million (about RM12.9 million) and would see a field of 156 players from around the world. The Maybank Championship Malaysia will be one of only six events at which the European Tour members will participate in the Asian region. It is also one of only four tournaments that are co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour in 2016. Meanwhile, the tournament's trophy was conceptualized by Maybank and created by Royal Selangor. The trophy is a modern sculptural art form of the 'Tiger', an eminent symbol of Maybank which is crafted out of pewter on a wooden base and weighs about 5kg. --BERNAMA
