F 1 chiefs fail to agree on new qualifying system

Manama, Apr. 3 (BNA): Formula 1 teams, the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone held a meeting here today and failed to reach a unanimous agreement on changes to the 2016 qualifying format, but agreed to hold another meeting next Thursday in a bid to resolve the situation for the Chinese Grand Prix which takes place at Shanghai on April 15-17. Formula 1's new system, in which drivers are eliminated at 90 second intervals during three knockout phases, was heavily criticised in Australia, but a failed vote to scrap it meant that it was retained for Bahrain. It is understood that Ecclestone and Todt are unwilling to return to 2015 qualifying, which teams backed, and have proposed a new system which they still haven't unveiled.
