Federation: Queiroz To Arrive Tehran Today To Sign Contract

Tehran, Sept 16, IRNA – Head of Iranian Football Federation (IRIFF) said early Tuesday morning former national football team Head Coach Carlos Queiroz will arrive in Tehran later in the day and will sign his new contract with IRIFF on Tuesday afternoon. Rejecting some media reports on existence of pressure for choosing or not choosing Queiroz, Ali Kaffashian said, 'There has been no pressure on the part of the country's officials for choosing, or not choosing Mr. Queiroz. Kaffashian who was speaking with the IRIB Channel 3's popular 90 football program anchor, said that some officials' remarks on favoring, or rejecting the renewal of Queiroz contract has been due to their serious concern about the country's national football team, as otherwise, there has really been no pressure either way. 'The Football Federation decided to enter negotiations with Queiroz for renewal of his contract two months ago, because he was the best choice for the national team, and we were not capable of finding a better choice than him,' he said. Stressing that there is no obstacle in the way of signing the new contract with Queiroz now, he reiterated, 'The only obstacle was the financial issue, on which we reached agreement with him.'/end
