First sports medicine clinch to launch Wednesday

Manama, Feb. 2 (BNA): The maiden sports medicine clinic will be opened Wednesday by Southern Governor and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa at a special function. The ceremony, set to take place at 11am, is part of the BOC project to develop the National Sports Medicine Centre, which bids to provide high quality services for athletes and all segments of the Bahrain society. The committee has sent invitations to a number of representatives of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Health Ministry, Education Ministry, Information Affairs Ministry, Bahrain Defence Force and other relevant dignitaries and personalities. Dr. Francisco Chapman of Cuba, specialized in sports medicine and injuries since 1992, will be managing this particular clinic. DrChapman has a vast experience in sports injuries, having worked with different national teams in Cuba, including wrestling, basketball and athletics. He also attended a number of world-class competitions such as the World Athletics Championship in Portugal in 2002, besides a series of specialized courses in medical supervision, sports injuries,sports traumatology andneural therapy. He participated in major international conferences such as the Cuban Congress of Orthopedics and Traumatology in November 1998 AND THE Scientific Conference of Sports Medicine in May 2001.
