Football Legends In Charity Matches To Raise Funds

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- The Global Legends Series (GLS) will bring together legendary football players to play in a series of matches around the world to raise funds and awareness on the GLS charities of choice and youth development in the countries they visit. The series starts in Bangkok, Thailand and will move to three other countries in 2015, namely China, Japan and Malaysia. Co-founder of the GLS, Fabio Cannavaro (centre) said they wanted to leave a legacy wherever they played and GLS would start to deliver these legacy ideas with youth initiatives and charitable awareness in all the countries they played. "I want to do something in Asia. I see Asia as the future of football and I want to share the passion with the people, especially young kids here," said the former Italian team captain at a press conference at the AFC House, here, Monday. The GLS group comprises invited legendary players from around the world who have helped their respective teams or countries win the premier football competitions such as the World Cup, European Championships, Champions League or have made 50 appearances for their country such as Michael Owen, Patrick Kluivert and Luis Figo. The first GLS match will be held at Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Dec 5.
