Hamilton Confident of Winning Sixth World Title

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport driver Lewis Hamilton has no doubt about winning his sixth Formula One (F1) world title this season. The 2019 season championship leader said he and the team were not allowed to have any doubt in their minds. "Naturally we work towards it (sixth world title). I'm always driven to succeed. So there's never a moment in the year that I have any doubts about it...So we're just full steam ahead and keeping my head down. "My goal is to try and get back to deliver the results. It takes a support team and we've got to pick up a strategy to live a better world but I've been really happy that we had an incredible season," he said at Petronas’ unveiling of the new range of Petronas Syntium with Cooltech in Malaysia here Tuesday. Hamilton has won five F1 World Championships, in 2008, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018, making him the joint second most successful driver of all time, matching Argentine legend Juan Manuel Fangio. Last Sunday, Hamilton finished fourth in the Singapore Grand Prix while Ferrari sealed the first-ever of any team a one-two finish in the race, through Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc respectively. However, Hamilton still extended his lead in the championship with 296 points, followed by teammate, Valtteri Bottas with 231 points. Mercedes still retain a healthy 133-point lead (527 points), followed by Ferrari (394 points) in the constructors’ championship. "I have six races coming up. I don't know what they (Ferrari) have done over the last few months, but I do believe they've been working hard for the remaining races," he said. Commenting on the Sepang International Circuit, Hamilton admitted that he missed racing on the track which he described as one of the toughest. -- BERNAMA
