Handball Maroon on Brink of Olympic Qualification with Win over Korea

Doha, November 25 (QNA) - Qatar's national handball team came within a single step of qualification for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics after reaching the final game of the Asian qualifiers with a 30-26 win over South Korea at Duhail Sports Hall. Only one team reach the finals in Rio from the Asian qualifiers while the second and third placed play in the European playoffs. The Maroon had booked a place in the semifinals, the second stage of the qualifiers, after topping Group B with 10 points from five consecutive wins over Uzbekistan, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Oman. Qatar Handball Association (QHA) President Ahmed Mohamed Al Shaabi expressed delight at the Maroon's qualification for the final game and thanked the large crowds that backed the team in today's game and urged them to carry on their support in the final to ensure the Olympic qualification is achieved.
