HH Shaikh Nasser praises Bahrain's medals record

Manama, Oct. 23 (BNA): HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, congratulated the committee on its achievements in what he described as a "Golden Year’, the BOC announced today. The announcement was made at the annual BOC board meeting, chaired by President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa in Seef. During the meeting, Shaikh Nasser commended the hard efforts of BOC and all its affiliates this year, when Bahrain took a record-breaking 391 medals in total in different sporting events, regionally and internationally. The meeting started with BOC vice president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa congratulating Shaikh Nasser on winning first place in the World Ironman Championship’s Executive Challenge Series held in Kona, Hawaii recently. The board had talks on a number of subjects on their agenda, such as creating a joint-stock company to manage the Bahrain National Sports Medicine Centre of the Bahrain Olympic Committee in an attempt to upgrade its services for the athletes as well as other members of Bahrain society. The board also approved the decision made by the best sports federation award judging committee, which granted the award for the second consecutive year to the Bahrain Athletics Association for its remarkable achievements at various levels, and for the outstanding management of its president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Furthermore, the board selected five promising athletes with outstanding athletic skills to participate in a special preparation program for the 2024 Olympics. They are Abdullah Janahi (sailing), Hajar Al Khaldi (athletics), Ali Ibrahim (cycling), Abdulla Abdul Karim (fencing) the Ebrahim Adnan (badminton). It was also announced that Secretary General of the BOC Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar would head Organizing Committee of the 2019 Bahrain Sports Day, which has been set to take place on February 12 next year. Also present at the meeting were board members Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Shaikh Mohammed bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Shaikh Hamad bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Khalid Al Khayyat, Rashid Al Zayani, Ali Esaaqi, Bader Nasser, Abdulla Al Dossary and Yousif Al Malki.
