ICSS Participates in New Project to Enable Young People to Volunteer for Sport

Doha, March 06 (QNA) - The International Center for Sports Security ICSS announced today that it is participating in a new project to enable young people to volunteer for sport, which will be officially launched next week from the Greek capital of Athens, with the participation of a group of institutions including members of the Olympic Movement and the United Nations civil society academies and institutions. The two-year project will be funded by the European Union through the Erasmus program and will implement and develop innovative teaching tools to train young volunteers on how to use sport to promote cultural dialogue, peace building and social and economic development through major sporting events. ICSS President Mohammed Hanzab stressed the importance of such global initiatives, which are becoming important platforms for the value added industry in sport field, pointing out that the volunteer project, which is supported financially by the European Union and adopted by the United Nations will serve a large segment of young people in the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, both from the European side and the Mediterranean countries in North Africa. Hanzab thanked the international organizations supporting the project, especially the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), praising the contribution and role of HE High Representative of the United Nations Alliance for Civilizations (UNAOC) Nassir bin Abdulaziz Al Nasser. In the first stage, the program will be tested on the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. The project will provide youth from civil society and youth interested in sport with educational tools and programs to assess their situation and conditions in order to promote international sports volunteering and formulate a set of recommendations, rules and best practices.
