Iran invited to Portugal futsal tourney

Tehran, March 11, IRNA - The world-class Iran was invited to a Portugal futsal tournament, said the country’s indoor football chief. “Portugal invited Iran for a four-strong event that will be a good opportunity for us ahead of the Asian meet,” Head of Iran Futsal Committee Seyyed Reza Eftekhari said. According to Iran Daily, Portugal’s eight-day competitions will kick off on June 22. Iran has won 10 Asian titles and ranks 6th in the world standings. Iran has played in five editions of FIFA Futsal World Championship, finishing fourth in its debut in 1992. The Asian powerhouse won the first FIFA Confederations Cup in Libya in 2009, and advanced to the finals of Grand Prix de Futsal known as Futsal Mini-World Cup in 2007 and 2009 editions.
