Iran judokas win gold medals in IBSA Judo World Championship

Tehran, IRNA – The first day of the 2022 IBSA Judo World Championships came to an end, while visually-impaired judokas from Iran won two gold medals. Judokas Meysam Banitaba and Vahid Jeddi defeated their rivals and grasped the gold medals on the first day of the competitions in Baku, Azerbaijan Republic, on Tuesday. Banitaba at 60 kg overcame rivals from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela to reach the final, and after defeating his Turkish contender won the gold medal. Jeddi at 73 kg succeeded in overpowering competitors from Mongolia, Georgia, and Kazakhstan; then, he defeated an athlete from Ukraine and gained the gold medal. The 2022 IBSA Judo World Championships is one of the stages to select qualified judokas and teams from different countries to compete in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. On the second day of the competitions, other Iranian judokas such as Omid Ja’fari, Vahid Nouri, and Mohammad-Reza Kheyrollahzadeh will represent Iran in the contests.
