Iran stand runner-up in Sumo Commonwealth Cup

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s national sumo team became the runners-up in the 2022 Sumo Commonwealth Cup near the Russian capital Moscow. More than 170 sumo wrestlers from 17 countries competed at the International Commonwealth Cup in Chekhov. The first place was taken by Russia, the athletes of Iran won the silver, and Mongolia won the bronze. The Iranian sumo wrestlers bagged three silver medals in the individual and two silver and bronze medals in the team course. Fatemeh Ahuye Zarrin, Mohammad-Reza Edalatlard, and Mohammad Ghanbari won the three silver medals. The Iranian national team consisted of 12 male and female athletes and three coaches headed by Jasem Manouchehri, who is also the founder of the sumo sport in Iran. Ma’soumeh Manouchehri was the coach of the female sumo team from Iran. During the Sumo Commonwealth Cup, the committee of the competitions honored three Iranian referees dispatched to the event, namely Amin Ebrahimian, Ma’soumeh Manouchehri, and Mehdi Kavyanfar.
