Iran, Vice-champion Of 2013 Junior Asian Championships

Tehran, June 17, IRNA – With 63 scores, Iranˈs junior freestyle wrestling team finished vice-champion of the 2013 Junior Asian Championships (June 13-16) in Phuket, Thailand. India with 68 stood champion, while Kazakhstan with 55 scores ranked third in the competitions. To win the second place in the 55kg category, Iranˈs Yunes Sarmasti overpowered the Mongolian and Kazakh rival but failed by the North Korean and Indian rivals in the semi-finals and finals respectively. In the 60kg category, Farzad Koulivand defeated the Sri Lankan, Kyrgyz and Japanese rivals. He won bronze medal. In the 66kg category, Iranian wrestler Peyman Yar-Ahmadi won bronze medal after defeating the Japanese, South Korean, and Vietnamese rivals. The 84kg gold medalist, Ali-Reza Karimi trounced the Kyrgyz, Mongolian, South Korean and Kazakh rivals. This is while, Iranian 50kg and 120kg freestyle wrestlers on Saturday won a silver and a gold medals at the 2013 Junior Asian Championships (June 13-16) in Phuket, Thailand. Wrestlers from 18 countries participated in the event. To win the 50kg silver medal, Mostafa Yaghoubi of Iran defeated Taiwanese rival 4-0 in the first round, the Yemeni rival 9-1 in the second round and the Japanese rival 9-1 in the semi-finals but was defeated by Indian rival 0-4. Furthermore, Abdullah Ghomi of Iran managed to stand champion and win the gold medal of the 120kg category after overpowering the Iraqi rival 8-0 in the first round, the Uzbek rival 7-0 in the second round, the South Korean rival 6-0 in the semi-finals and Kazakh rival 9-7 in the finals. The new wrestling rules were applied in the current contests./end
