Largest number of athletes to compete in 2016 Olympics

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ While only some 120 days left to open the 31st Summer Olympics of Rio De Janeiro in Brazil, Mongolian national team has obtained 21 Olympic quotas so far. As of present, the country has got nine quotas in freestyle wrestling (five male and four female), three--in shooting, four--in boxing, four--in athletics and one--in archery. It is projected that the national team of judo will compete in the Olympics with a whole composition in all men and women’s weight categories. In addition, two swimmers will participate in the forthcoming Games with wild cards. Mongolia is also likely to receive extra quotas from qualification tournament for freestyle wrestling, boxing, archery, weightlifting, taekwondo and cycling. Thus, the participation of Mongolia in the 2016 Summer Olympics could be with the largest number of athletes. Mongolia competed in 2008 and 2012 Olympics with the record number of 29 athletes each. Since its participation in Olympic Games of 1964, the national team of Mongolia has won two gold, nine silver and 13 bronze medals in wrestling, judo, boxing and shooting.
