Leicester City Fans In Bangkok Left Disappointed After Draw With Man United

BANGKOK, May 3 (Bernama) -- Leicester City FC fans here were left disappointed, after the club owned by Thai billionaire Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, only managed a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in a Barclays Premier League match on Sunday. About 1,000 of them had gathered at the King Power Complex here Saturday night, expecting to celebrate a fairy tale finish for the Foxes if they beat Manchester United. The King Power Complex in Rangnam Alley which houses a duty-free shopping mall and the headquarters of King Power International Group owned by Vichai, was filled with a sea of supporters in Leicester City's blue jersey. Fans were feted with various entertainment programmes, free food and drinks, as well as a giant screening of the live match. With Saturday night's draw, Leicester City have to wait for the result of the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea on Tuesday to find out if they (Leicester City) are the new champions of the league. If Tottenham lose to Chelsea, Claudio Ranieri's squad will be automatically crowned champions. However, if Tottenham beat Guus Hiddink's side, Leicester City will have to win the game against Everton next week to clinch the title. Vichai, the ninth richest person in Thailand according to Forbes magazine, bought the club in 2010, after sponsoring the club's jersey for three consecutive years. In 2011, he was appointed as chairman of the club. Following Vichai's ownership of the club, Leicester City's popularity among the Thais has also skyrocketed, with many of them regarding the club as the second "national team". --BERNAMA
