Lothar Matthaeus Rules Out Iran Coaching Job

Berlin, March 4, IRNA - German football icon Lothar Matthaeus said he is not interested in becoming head coach of the Iranian national team, the daily Die Welt reported Tuesday. Mattheus rejected Iranian press reports that he was a front-runner for the Iran coaching position ahead of his visit to Tehran on Wednesday. One should not believe these ˈstoriesˈ. I am not looking for a coaching post. I am very happy with my life and my current job as a football expert, the former German national team and FC Bayern skipper reiterated. My visit to Iran is only because I was invited to take part in an Iranian TV sports show, nothing more and nothig less, Matthaeus said. The ex-Hungarian national team coach was also scheduled to meet with his former Bayern Munich team-mate Ali Daei for lunch during his visit to Tehran to talk about the old times. Matthaeus whose coaching career included also stints in Brazil and Serbia, made clear that his meeting with Daei would not involve contract talks about the Iran coaching position./end
