Malaysia Beat Ghana 2-0 In Women's FIH World League

Santhiran NEW DELHI, March 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's women's hockey team qualified for semi-final of the FIH World League Round 2 after defeating Ghana 2-0 at the Major Dhyan National Stadium here Thursday. Malaysia will face Poland on Saturday after the Polish girls ended Russia's dreams of making the last four by beating them 4-2. Malaysia went ahead as early as the 3rd minute when Nur Azlin Sumantri converted a penalty corner. Anis Nadia Onn scored the second vial a field goal in the 23rd minute. The girls failed to convert a few penalty corners in the rest of the match. Earlier in their campaign, Malaysia had thrashed Kazakhstan 8-0 and won by 3-0 margins against Russia and Singapore. Malaysia's team manager Ernawati Mahmud is optimistic her team can take on Poland who are ranked 26 in the world. Malaysia are ranked 21st and seeded second in this tournament and are likely to qualify for the third round of the league in Spain from June 10-21. Malaysia also have not conceded a single goal so far. Hosts India, the top seeds, thrashed Singapore 10-0 in another quarter-final match. India will face Thailand in the other semi-final match. The Thais booked their berth after defeating Kazakhstan 3-2. The semifinals wil be played on Saturday (March 14) -- BERNAMA
