Malaysia Lose 0-4 To Australia In Women's Hockey Opener

From Nursyabiha Sukri GLASGOW (Scotland), July 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysia lost 0-4 to Australia in a women's hockey Group B match at Glasgow National Hockey Stadium, here Thursday. World number two Australia got off to a flying start when Jodie Kennie opened scoring in the 6th minute through a penalty corner. Kellie White scored a field goal in the 19th minute to stretch Australia's lead to 2-0. Georgina Parker got Australia's third goal when she scored a field goal in the 29th minute. Malaysia who are ranked 21st in the world put up stronger resistance to restrict Australia to only one more goal in the second half. Australia's fourth goal came from a field goal scored by Georgina in the 48th minute. Coach Mohd Nasihin Nubli Ibrahim said he was satisfied with the performance of the players who showed maturity against a world leading team. "Despite losing 0-4, the players put up strong resistance. Their performance was better than in New Delhi four years where we lost 0-8 to Australia. "Our players y not only play defensively but were able to penetrate their defence," he told reporters, here Thursday. Nasihin said strikers Nurul Nabihah Mansur and Rabiatul Adawiyah Mohamed need to change tactics to cope with hosts Scotland on Friday. "Scotland are a good team and have home ground advantage.
