Malaysia To Retain Women's Team Gold Medal

From Zuriati Zulmi INCHEON (South Korea), Sept 26 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian women's team secured a place in the final of the 17th Asian Games squash team event after defeating Hong Kong 2-0 in the semi-finals. Low Wee Wern started the ball rolling for Malaysia when she defeated Hong Kong's Chan Ho Ling 11-5, 11-5, 11-7 in 32 minutes. Malaysia collected their second point when world number one Nicol David beat Annie Au, 4-11, 11-5, 11-8 and 11-6 in 44 minutes. "It was tough and good that Wee Wern won the convincing point and I just came in to do what I had to do. "Annie really played a great game of squash, especially the first game. I just really needed to get my game together, tightened up a bit more and not to give her any chance to do what she did in the game. "It got better and we got closed again in the third game but no doubt, I needed to just step up the phase and give her less chance to play her game," said Nicol. Malaysia will meet India, who breezed past homeground Korea 2-0 in the other semi-final, to set up the final clash. India were represented by Joshana Chinappa, who defeated Park Eunok 11-6, 13-11 and 11-8, and Dipika Rebecca Pallikal, who defeated Song Sunmi 11-4, 11-5, 8-11 and 11-5. "We are just glad to get into the final. We will do well and give our all. I am sure the team is gunning for that," said Nicol. --BERNAMA
