Malaysia Secure Last Eight Spot In Women's World Squash Team Tournament

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) - - Malaysia secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2018 Women's World Team Squash Championship after crushing Hong Kong 3-0 in their second Group D match in the tournament held in Dalian, China, Wednesday. The second straight win scored by the national squad saw them top Group D with six points, having edged South Africa 3-0 in the opening match, Tuesday. In Wednesday's action, 2018 Asian Games singles reigning champion, Nicol David was pushed to the limit before edging Annie Au Wing Chi; 6-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-4 and 11-6 in the first match, according to the tournament’s website ;www.wsfwomensteams.com. Reigning national champion, S. Sivasangari delivered the second point for Malaysia after subduing Joey Chan Ho Ling; 15-13, 7-11, 11-8 and 11-9, before former world number five, Low Wee Wern completed the rout after dislodging Lee Ka Yi;winning in 6-11, 12-10, 11-8 and 11-9 in the final match. Malaysia will wrap up the preliminary round by taking on Switzerland, Thursday. Based on the tournament format, the top two teams in each group will advance into the last eight.
