Malaysia Settle For Runner-Up Spot In World University Squash Tournament

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysia had to settle for the silver after suffering a 0-2 defeat to Great Britain in the team event final of the 2018 World University Squash Championship in Birmingham, England on Wednesday (early Thursday in Malaysia). In the match held at the University of Birmingham, the hosts claimed their first point through men's individual gold medallist, Josh Masters when he beat Mohammad Syafiq Mohd Kamal 11-5, 11-8 and 11-6, according to the tournament website: www.wucsquash2018.com. Winner in the women's individual event, Lily Rhian Taylor sealed the title for Great Britain after edging Aika Azman 11-6, 11-8, 9-11 and 11-8 in the second match. For the record, four Malaysian players - Mohammad Syafiq, Aika, Mohd Addeen Idrakie Mohd Bahtiar and Zoe Foo Yuk Han secured the bronze medal in the men's and women's individual events after they lost to their respective opponents in the semi-finals. -- BERNAMA
