Malaysian Archer Advances To Asia Cup Stage One Finals In Bangkok

KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysian archer, Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh, has a good chance of winning the gold medal after advancing to the women’s compound individual finals at the 2019 Asia Cup Stage One archery championship in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday. The 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games two-gold medalist beat Singaporean Contessa Loh Tze Chieh 10-9 in the shoot-off arrow after they were tied with 144 points. Fatin will face Muskan Kirar from India in the finals on Friday after the latter defeated Seyedeh-Vida Halimianavval from Iran 146-144 in another tough semi-final round on Wednesday. Fatin had earlier defeated teammate Nur Aina Yasmine Halim 144-142 in the third leg of the championship. Two other national archers, Saritha Cham Nong dan Nurul Syazhera Mohd Asmi, however, were shown the exit as early as in the first and second legs, by Diana Makarchuk of Kazakhstan (140-143) and Andrea Robles from the Philippines (134-139), respectively. In the men’s compound individual, none of the national archers made it to the finals. Wong Co Wan, M. Khambeswaran and Jafar Syahrizan survived until the quarterfinals before being shown the exit by their respective opponents. Wong lost to Iranian Palizban Mohammadsaleh (141-144), Khambeswaran to India’s Wankhade Vedant (144-146), while Jafar was defeated by Nguyen Tien Cuong of Vietnam (142-145). Khambeswaran had earlier defeated teammate Mohd Hakhiki Mohd Kamro 141-138 in the second leg. -- BERNAMA
