Malaysian Bowling Squad Add Another Two Gold Medals In ACSG

PETALING JAYA (Selangor, Malaysia), Nov 18 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian bowling squad headed to the 1st ASEAN Civil Service Games continued its outstanding performance by bagging two gold and two bronze medals in the men's and women's doubles events Wednesday. Muhamad Saiful Sairon/Hafifi Hafiq Roselan clinched the gold in men's event after knocking down 2,431 pins, 63 higher than Myanmar's Zaw Lin Tun/Aung Win at the Sunway Mega Lanes, Bandar Sunway here. The country's second pair comprising Muhammad Bakri Husain/Mohd Zul Fauzi Mohamed Sawal secured the bronze with 2,347 pinfalls. The women's doubles gold medal came through Dayang Salina Awang Kaum/Nurul Atiqah Ahmad with 2,319 pinfalls while Saudah Hanapiah/Siti Nur Syakila Mardyana Aminuddin won the bronze with 2,223 pinfalls while Leticia Peh/Lim Fong Yee of Singapore settled for silver with 2,242 pinfalls. Speaking to reporters after the prize giving ceremony, Hafifi Hafiq said the pair would like to dedicate the medal to all civil servants in the country for their contribution towards the country's growth. "We are happy to have clinched the gold since competition was stiff, especially from Myanmar, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines," said the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) staff. Meanwhile, Nurul Atiqah who had claimed the gold in the women's individual event Tuesday, said she was looking forward to representing the country in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games. The national contingent will continue its challenge in the men's and women's team events on the last day of the tournament Thursday after sweeping all gold medals at stake on the first two days. Malaysia head started their campaign Tuesday by winning two gold medals in the men's and women's individual events through Muhammad Bakri Husain and Nurul Atiqah respectively, while Dayang Salina delivered a silver followed by a bronze from Mohd Zul Fauzi in the women's and men's individual events respectively. Malaysia have set a six-gold target for this inaugural edition of the Games where tenpin bowling, badminton, table-tennis, golf and futsal are contested. The chef-de-mission for the Games from Nov 15 to 19 is Sports Commissioner Zaiton Othman, a former athlete who had excelled in various track and field events. -- BERNAMA
