Malaysian Nurul Atiqah Creates History By Winning Gold Medal At World Petanque Championship

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- Nurul Atiqah Abu Talib created history by winning a gold medal in the women's World Petanque Championships at Arena Petanque PPWPKL, here Sunday. Nurul Atiqah, 19, beat Audrey Bandiera of France 37-21 in the shooting event to achieve the feat, the first in the history of the country's participation in the sport at international level. "After winning my tough semifinal match, my confidence grew by leaps and bounds. The win also boost my chances and confidence to win a gold medal at the SEA Games hosted by Singapore," she said. Meanwhile, in the triples event, Nurul Atiqah, Anis Amira Basri, Ariba Aida Hasan (Nur Thahira Tasnim Abdul Aziz) managed a bronze medal after beating the trio from Sweden 13-11 while France upset defending champion Thailand 13-10 to win the gold medal. --BERNAMA
