Malaysian Paralympians Set New World Records

By Mohd Shukri Ishak  JAKARTA, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- National paralympians, Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi and Abdul Latif Romly lived up to their top billings when both of them set new world records in their respective events on the second day of athletics competition in the 2018 Asian Para Games at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium here Tuesday. Mohamad Ridzuan clocked 11.87 seconds in the men's 100m T36 (cerebral palsy), to erase the previous record of 11.90 seconds created by Russian para athlete, Evgenii Shvetcov in the IPC World Paralympic Championship in Lyon, France in 2013. Abdul Latif cleared 7.64 metres in the men's long jump T20 (learning disability) to rewrite his own record of 7.60 metres set in the 2016 Rio Olympics.  Mohamad Ridzuan when met by reporters after the event was proud to crack the word record in the event. “I want thank my coach, the Olympic Council of Malaysia, National Sports Institute as well as my parents for their support and encouragement," he said. Echoing Mohamad Ridzuan's views was Abdul Latif who did not expect to break his own world record as he was getting stiff competition from other participants. “Thank God, I was able to perform beyond my own expectation and set my own new world record,” said Perlis-born long jumper.
