Malaysian Wins Keirin Bronze In Italy

KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysian track cyclist Anis Amira Rosdi ensured that Malaysia did not go home empty-handed by winning a bronze medal at the 2nd Grand Prix Citta at Comunale Velodrome in Ascoli Piceno, Italy, on Saturday. The 21-year-old from Perlis finished third in the women's keirin event. The gold was won by Belgium's Nicky Degrendele while the silver went to Great Britain rider Sophie Capewell. "Alhamdulillah. Finally, I managed to step onto the podium for keirin, my maiden race in Italy," said Anis Amira in her latest entry on her Instagram account Sunday. In the women's individual sprint event, Anis Amira, who represented Sime Darby Malaysia, finished in ninth position. Capewell took the gold while the silver and bronze medals were won by Italy's Miriam Vece and Spain's Tania Calvo Barbero respectively. Meanwhile, Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom, who clocked the fifth best time in the qualifying round to enter the finals, finished in seventh place overall in the men's sprint event. Tjon En Fa from Suriname took gold, followed by Jason Kenny of Great Britain and Aleksandr Dubchenko from Russia in second and third places respectively.
