Malaysians Yow Ng, Yuen In Last Eight Of New Zealand Classic

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 (Bernama) -- Two Malaysians - Ivan Yuen and Eain Yow Ng cruised into the quarterfinals of the New Zealand Classic Squash Championship after defeating their respective opponents in the first round of the tournament held at the Squash Gym Palmerston North in New Zealand, on Thursday. Yow Ng, the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games double gold medallist who overcame two hurdles in the qualifying round, pulled off a surprise by knocking out seventh seed, Joshua Larkin of Australia 8-11, 11-6, 11-8, 9-11, 12-10 in the opening match, according to the squash website; www.squashsite.co.uk. He will meet second seed Rex Hedrick in the quarterfinals after the Australian swept aside New Zealand's Evan Williams 11-9, 11-5, 11-1. Also through to the last eight was Ivan Yuen after he edged England's qualifier Ashley Davies 11-7, 11-5, 11-4. Yuen is slated to take on fifth seed Peter Creed after the Welshman defeated Luke Jones of New Zealand 11-4, 11-3, 11-6. Another Malaysian Mohd Syafiq Kamal, however, failed to advance to the next round after losing 8-11, 6-11, 3-11 to top seed, Paul Coll of New Zealand. --BERNAMA
