Malaysia's Yan Yee Follows Pandelela's Footsteps To Qualify For Rio Olympics

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- After Pandelela Rinong's emphatic achievement, another national diver has managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, next year. Ng Yan Yee, managed to book a ticket to the Olympics after qualifying among the top 12 divers and make it to the final of the women's 3m springboard individuals event, Saturday. In the semi-finals at the Aquatic Palace, Kazan, Russia on Friday, Ng was tied for 11th place with Ukraine diver, Olena Fedorova, by collecting 296.10 points. The semi-final was dominated by Chinese duo Shi Tingmao and He Zi as both collected 381.90 and 371.40 points respectively, while Jennifer Abel of Canada came in third with 353.90 points. Earlier, Ng had qualified for the semi-finals after finishing in 12th place with 294.60 points, while fellow national diver while Nur Dhabitah Sabri missed the chance after finishing in 19th place, with only the top 18 making the semi-finals. -- BERNAMA
