Many Junior Players Show Progress, Have Potential In Squash - Nicol

GEORGE TOWN, (Penang, Malaysia) Dec 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has an abundant of new talents in squash who could be groomed into becoming professional players in the future, said former squash queen Nicol Ann David. The eight-time world champion said many local junior players had shown progress and some had the potentials to become back-up players in squash. ‘’I see many talented junior players who have the potentials to become back-ups in squash. I hope they will train hard and we see how they can expand the potentials that they have,’’ she told reporters after attending the 'Tribute to Datuk Nicol David, Meet and Greet' programme, here Sunday. Also present were Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and State Women and Family Development, Gender Inclusiveness and Religions other than Islam Committee chairman Chong Eng. On her plans for next year, Nicol said she would focus on empowering women and youth in squash through the Nicol David Foundation. "I want to share my story through motivational talks and speaking engagements. I want to see what I have to offer with my foundation in helping to empower girls and boys through sport, and using English as an extra advantage. "I also want to do something with the Ministry of Youth and Sport. I also want to find ways (to work) with the women, youths and sport segment, to inspire them to excel," she said. When asked whether she had received an offer to be the national coach, Nicol said she did not coach full time but would accept invitation to coach on a (squash) camp basis. -- BERNAMA
